This is my story of laughing at the adventures or pain points as I travel through life. Now, some people might take this as sad, sadistic, and sometimes painful, but I have decided to laugh at my frustrations and pain points. My normal saying is Don’t Miss Your Moment ….. Now I find that I sometimes need to laugh at my moments. Basically, I am tired of crying, so I laugh. It’s therapeutic and a little off the bean. So, I have come to the conclusion that something is wrong with my village… so then I am beginning to wonder what is wrong with me?
Again, this is supposed to be funny, at least to me, that sometimes my life is just ridiculous. And I apologize in advance to anyone offended. Again, my strange thinking.
It is still Friday, and yes, my adventures continue. Now today I know after leaving work I need to put gas in my vehicle and get my oil changed. I even take off an hour early to accomplish this… Ha!
I get to the gas station and wonder what in the ham and cheese is going on? No, I know the traffic is sometimes bad, but … Ok I will set the scene: I am going to a gas station that has basically 16 pumps on a corner with a traffic light, so it is always busy, but now cars are trying to get into the station, blocking traffic trying to get down the street. Now they are not just blocking one street, but two streets are now congested with traffic.
I see this and want to run the other way, but I am down to a little less than ¼ tank of gas. I finally get through the traffic light and enter the gas station to only have my way blocked by trucks. No, not 18-wheelers, but pickup trucks with trailers on them. Not one but four of them in different locations, and no, not the same company; they block the passageway to drive around the pumps. I try this for about 20 minutes and still can’t get to a gas pump. I get an opening and head for the exit. I will suffer through rather than wait on this nightmare, and no one is in these trucks. I guess they went inside for a lunch break and a dance. I don’t know.
I escape that escapade only to get on the expressway to cross over the bridge to the next state, and lo and behold, the land of the orange barrels has closed one of the lanes, and someone has caused an accident in the other lane.
So, I sit here; I am over an hour early for my oil appointment, so I thought I would stop and get lunch and relax. Ha! They finally move the accident into the lane of the orange barrels, and traffic slowly moves. After all, we all have to slow down to see the accident, shake our heads with our opinion on where the drivers went wrong, pray that everyone is alright, and be grateful it wasn’t us.
I had been sitting in the traffic singing in my head that song about move get out of the way. Of course, I add my own version of words, because I don’t know the lyrics and (no, I am not going to tell you). I have this friend who has a very colorful vocabulary. Now, I have to say I normally don’t use that kind of language, but after being in some traffic, sometimes I want to.
I decided (this is Angie’s thinking) that he needs to develop an app. I would like to press a button and have that colorful language come out in my frustration with traffic.
But… back to traffic, and yes, there is construction. So, over the river and through the land of orange barrels, now a new turn in the route to the dealership for a free oil change takes me literally up hills, on two-lane roads that have no edge or guardrails, and there is a significant drop. Some of these drops have dirt roads that lead to houses down in the valley. Yes, it’s those kinds of drops that make even me, the pilot, raise my eyebrows. I have to say this land of the orange barrel routes has allowed me to see parts of both states that I probably would never ever venture to. I am also very glad that it is daylight.
Needless to say, I arrive five minutes late for my appointment. Of course, there is a long line, and I wait my turn. At this point, I am just glad it’s Friday, and I have made it through the week.
Now it’s my turn, and yes, Angie is a little off the bean. I paid off this vehicle three years ago. I take good care of the car, ok except the over the river trips which I have no control over this newest tourist attraction to take everyone through every pothole, sinkholes, ditches and craters that exist. But… I digress; the car looks very good.
I keep the oil changed, windshield wiper fluid, car wash, etc. So, the day I made the last payment, I bought two rolls of duct tape and had a talk with my car. Yes, I, Angie, have issues. Ok, I didn’t talk as much. I threatened the car; I said I wish you would. I have fed you, gave you new tires (actually, that was two weeks later). I have washed you and made sure you were taken care of; I even kept you in the garage. So, I dare you to act up. So far it has been good. Now, at whatever mileage, this guy gives me this spiel about checking something that requires two checks: one is $150, and the other is $250.
In that moment, I think I turned into my mother and gave that guy that look. You know the one she gives you when you experiment and stick the fork into a light socket. Like, what is wrong with you? Did I drop you on your head? I say nothing and notice the guy isn’t looking up or making eye contact. So, he knows this is bogus and clears his throat, still not looking up at me, and says We will leave that for next time.
So, I go sit and wait again, just trying to put my brain back together, when some guy hands me a card, and it says he is the owner of the dealership and wonders if I would be interested in selling my car. I smile, shake my head, and sit back in the chair. I no longer trust my words. I get the text: everything on your car- tires, etc. is in the green. They come and get me, and I go home and crash on the bed. I am not looking at that paper. And no, I still do not have gas in my car.
See you next time!
Let me know. How was your week?
Angie
